This double-flowered Galanthus nivalis resembles a snowflake, hence the name given in French. With the six distinctly consistent outer segments when fully open and a neat rosette of inner segments, it reminds me of a parachute softening the descent, gracefully falling toward earth. You will not confuse this snowdrop for any other from a distance due to these far-reaching outer segments.
Discovered by Mark Brown in Buckinghamshire during the mid 1980s, it is a slow but steady increaser and well worth the wait! It remains a collector’s snowdrop building a graceful clump in time.
